Halesowen Town preview

After kicking off pre-season with a 4-2 victory last week media team member Ryan Robinson looks ahead to Tomorrow’s fixture against Halesowen Town.

The Scholars began preseason last Tuesday by fielding two different starting elevens in each half. After falling 2-0 behind the second half eleven turned the game around and added to Jack Langston’s first half penalty with a brace from Ben Lund and a Kieran Fenton header.

Halesowen are entering their third season in the Southern premier league premier division (step three of non-league football) after winning the Northern premier league division one Midlands. The summer transfers have seen The Yeltz lose Kieren Donnelly, Conor Tee and Ryan Wynter to Boston United, Real Bedford and Hednesford Town retrospectively. Alongside these Alex Cameron and Reece Flanagan have departed for Redditch United. however they have added to the squad with the additions of Jason Cowley, Alex Gudger, and Kyle Finn from Hereford, Brackley Town and Tamworth retrospectively. This game is Town’s second this preseason after winning 3-1 At Malvern Town on Saturday.

There have been seven games between the two sides in the last ten years. Out of these Chasetown have only lost once, however this was a 1-0 loss the last time we visited The Grove in the league on the 15th of April 2023. Other notable games include a last-minute Jack Langston penalty when we advanced to the Playoff finals in 2022 as well as a 4-2 penalty victory in The FA Trophy back in 2021. Players that have pulled on the blue of Chasetown and Halesowen include current Scholar’s defender Sam Griffiths, Ryan Wynter who departed The Yeltz this summer and George Cater.
