Despite the League success over Aylesbury United on Saturday, manager Charlie Blakemore opted to ring the changes for Tuesday night, but the side lacked power up front and it was left to the defence, led by Captain Kevin Thompson, to provide the game’s few highlights.
Five minutes in a cross from the hard-working Ben Twigger saw headers from Danny Smith and Paul McMahon thwarted, before Karl Edwards rounded Lee Hunt ten minutes later only to be halted by the linesman’s flag.
Further efforts from Twigger and Smith following free kicks went wide, and several supporters thought that goals would be virtually impossible as play swung back and forth through the midfield.
Another Twigger cross on the half-hour saw Russell Peel dive for a header, but he just failed to connect as the ball was palmed away by Bedworth keeper Andrew Kemp.
Bedworth introduced Sam Bircher in place of Stuart Adamson for the second half, and he made an early impact with a run into the Scholars box, only to be stopped by McMahon.
The visitors opened the scoring on 49 minutes when Daniel Pitham picked up a Karl Wiggins corner, turning rapidly to send the ball low past young Chasetown keeper Matt Sargeant.
Chasetown’s equaliser came out of nowhere ten minutes later. A high ball from Paul McMahon was headed out by Darren Bartley and appeared to be heading into touch, but an optimistic effort by star defender John Branch bounced its way past Kemp to level the scoreline.
The Scholars failed to follow up the equaliser, and after a number of tough challenges a dangerous free kick near the edge of the area by Bedworth substitute Luke Baker found Lee Greenway, who beat the Chasetown wall to send a right-footed shot in off the post.
The game petered out into a succession of challenges, and home defender Russell Peel was sent off late on after picking up two yellow cards.
