Record breakers!

Record breakers!

Paul Mullins4 Aug 2013 - 08:27

TeamBath’s hopes of securing a coveted place in the second round of the FA Cup for their first time in their short history ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Instead, it was Chasetown who reached the second round for the first time in their history.

Vaughan Thomas netted the first after 10 minutes and Craig Holland’s powerful shot made it 2-0 on the half hour mark giving TeamBath a mountain to climb in front of a 2067-strong crowd at Twerton Park.

In between those the goals Dean Smith forced Lee Evans into a fine save – he had to react sharply to tip Smith’s looping header over the bar.

Then Sean Canham headed an effort at the Chasetown keeper from Josh Llewellyn's cross five minutes before Holland struck to make it 2-0.
Twelve minutes after the break Darren Chitty dived at full strength to keep out a Kyle Perry shot.

And on the hour-mark Shaun Lamb had to race back to clear off his line after Ben Steane’s shot had beaten Chitty on his near post.

Sub Steve Abbott had two efforts deep into added time, while the two Matts – Lock and Townley – worked tirelessly down the right flank.

Chasetown: Evans, J Branch, M Branch, Slater, Thomas, Williams, Steane, Parsons, Perry, Perrow (D Smith 89), Holland

Other Subs: Edwards, S Smith, Spacey, Thompson (not used)
