After the euphoria of their FA Cup victory, The Scholars never really got to grips with this game, but there was enough in reserve to ensure that they took full advantage of this rare league outing.
Making two changes from the side that performed so confidently on Saturday, manager Charlie Blakemore rested defenders Chris Slater and John Branch, both of who had picked up slight injuries at the weekend and Paul Spacey along with Kevin Thompson slotted into defence.
It was a good start for the visitors who should have been celebrating a goal in the first five minutes at the Causeway. Dean Perrow latched onto a through ball to go one on one with Tassell, but as the striker rounded the keeper a superb saving tackle ensured that the Scholars top scorer would not add to his impressive goal tally.
The goal that should have settled the visitors down came in the 14th minute. A free kick from keeper Lee Evans was fumbled by his opposite number and Vaughan Thomas was on hand to stab in the loose ball from ten yards out.
Cinderford hit back and caught Chasetown napping with a free kick. The set piece was quickly played into the feet of Scott Griffin and the striker punished the Scholars lack of concentration to fire in the equaliser on 26 minutes.
The game turned on a 36th minute incident that saw Chasetown take the lead from the penalty spot and the Foresters lose a man as Nick Griffiths received a second yellow card for bringing down substitute Danny Smith in the area.
Kyle Perry confidently slotted away the spot kick and most of the crowd then expected the visitors to run riot with a man advantage, but the home side had different ideas and the ten men put up a real fight helped by some inspired goalkeeping from Tassell who was making his first team debut.
The youngster brought off some stunning saves to deny Perry and Craig Holland, but the best was his one handed effort to scoop a Thomas downward header off the line as the central defender threatened to garb his second of the game.
Chasetown brought on new signing Nathan Lamey for the injured Smith and the former Bromsgrove hit man showed some neat touches on his Scholars debut.
Despite having the majority of the possession, Chasetown could not capitalise, but it was a victory that the Scholars desperately needed to keep in touch with the leading pack.
