Perrow brace joint hotshot

Perrow brace joint hotshot

Paul Mullins4 Aug 2013 - 12:26

A brace of goals from ace marksman Dean Perrow sent him joint top of the leagues hot shots.

More importantly for Chasetown, kept the Scholars in the play-off hunt on a night when all of their promotion rivals won writes Russell Brown.

The home side started off full of running with Koriya providing to be an early handful, but as the game settled down, Chasetown began to get in their stride. A fine ball in for Perrow just saw the striker fail to adjust to the flight of the ball and as a result he did not get the required power to trouble keeper Tom Smith.

The Bones reply was a shot from Perton that was a fraction too high to cause Lee Evans any due concern.

A youthful Rothwell side kept their visitors at bay for half an hour until a foul on Danny Smith gave Mark Branch the opportunity to curl in his sixth league goal of the season, striking a curling ball around the wall and into the top corner of the net.

Little was seen of the Bones as an attacking force after that with half chances being expertly dealt with by Lucan Spittle and there was an impressive full debut for Ross Miller at the back.

Twice Chasetown might have made more of some sloppy play by the keeper as two of his attempted clearances were intercepted.

Predictably, the youngsters tired towards the end of the game and that gave Chasetown the opportunity to find Perrow the room to take on the weary home defenders.

On 73 minutes a route one ball caught out the home side and Perrow was onto the chance in a flash to hook the ball past the exposed Smith in the Rothwell goal for league strike number 22 and nine minutes later Perrow had collected number 23 for the season as his quick feet allowed him to dummy the keeper to fire in his second of the night.

Smith almost added a fourth from a Ben Steane cross as he went in bravely with the keeper, but his effort just looped over the crossbar.
That victory now sets up an intriguing local derby clash with Willenhall Town this coming Saturday as several ex-Reds are in line to play against their former colleagues at the Scholars Ground.
