In the opening minutes, Stafford were quick to assert themselves, coming close with a shot that was poked just wide of the target.
However, the game took an unexpected turn when Chasetown conceded early on. A well-placed ball forward found Hearsay, who coolly slotted it past Pond’s legs, putting Stafford in front.
Yates looked to respond with a powerful effort from just inside the box, but his shot sailed narrowly over the crossbar. Langston then had a free-kick that struck the wall, and his follow-up attempt was straight at Jenkins in goal, failing to trouble the keeper.
As the second half kicked off, Yates again came close, this time with a header that flopped just over the bar. Pond made a sharp stop from Hunter on the far side, but moments later, Langston’s effort drifted wide. Stafford continued to press, with another shot going over the bar, raising the tension on the pitch.
The turning point came when Chasetown was awarded a penalty after Butlin was brought down in the 18-yard box. Langston stepped up confidently and slotted the ball home, leveling the score and reigniting hope for the Scholars.
Just moments later, O’Callaghan thought he had put his team ahead with a free-kick goal, but the offside flag was raised, denying him the winning goal. With Pond making a crucial save to keep the game alive, it headed straight to penalties.
For the penalties, Kris Taylor was first to step up, slotting it into the bottom right corner via the post. O’Callaghan followed, firing home to give the Scholars extra hope. Pond then took his turn, burying it into the back of the net. Finally, for the win, Alfie Taylor stepped up and fired home, securing victory and sending Chasetown into the semi-finals of the Staffordshire Senior Cup.
