Worcester and Chasetown Play Out Entertaining Draw

david birt31 Aug - 13:32

With both teams at a Stalemate, and a Butlin goal to put Chasetown equal, they will Replay on Tuesday night for the decider.

The hosts began brightly, knocking on the door early as a dangerous cross was whipped into the box, only for Cameron to produce a crucial block. Moments later, the ball fell to Cater, who took aim at the near post, but the Worcester goalkeeper was equal to it, pulling off a smart save.

Worcester quickly responded with a counter-attack of their own, and it was Pondy who was called into action. The goalkeeper made a quick reaction save to deny the hosts a clear opening. However, Pondy found himself in a spot of bother moments later. He came out to collect a loose ball but was caught off guard as the ball was lobbed over him just wide over the post.

Chasetown were looking lively in attack, and Butlin had a golden opportunity to put them ahead. After a well-worked move, he let fly with a curling shot, but it sailed just over the bar. Yates then delivered a perfect cross to Bradley, whose header just missed the target, going narrowly over.

It was Worcester who took the lead in the 37th minute. A counter-attack saw the ball worked out to Liam Lockett, who made no mistake, firing past Pondy to give the hosts the advantage. Chasetown quickly responded, with Bradley winning a free-kick in a dangerous position. He stepped up to take it, but his effort was well saved by the Worcester keeper, who then comfortably dealt with the resulting corner.

The visitors were pushing, but Worcester had their own chance from a corner. The striker’s shot was blocked, and the ball fell to Rowe but his follow-up effort flew wide.

As the second half kicked off, Chasetown came out with purpose, and it didn’t take long for them to find the equalizer. A perfectly timed ball found Butlin, who slotted it home coolly to make it 1-1.

A stoppage in play followed the goal as
Worcester’s goalkeeper went down injured, causing a brief delay in proceedings. When the match resumed, Chasetown looked to capitalize, with Yates heading a cross just over the bar, his effort sailing onto the roof of the net.

In the final minutes, Chasetown pressed for a late winner. Cameron had a chance to snatch all three points but could only steer his header wide at the death, ensuring that the match would finish all square.

Both teams will feel they had their chances to take all three points, but ultimately, a 1-1 draw was a fair result. Both sides will meet again for a replay on Tuesday night at the Scholars ground.
