Goals from Jack Langston and Jordan Evans secured Chasetown’s place in the Walsall Senior Cup Final.
NPL Premier Division side Rushall arrived in strong cup form, having knocked out Hednesford in the Staffordshire Senior Cup the previous week. However, in difficult conditions, it was the Scholars who began on the front foot.
The first opening came eight minutes in, but Evans was unable to get a decent connection after the ball bobbled into his path inside the area. A minute later, Langston delivered a dangerous corner that flashed across the face of goal, evading any finishing touch.
Chasetown continued to apply pressure, with Joey Butlin combining with Luke Yates, whose effort was smothered after a Pics defender took the sting out of the shot.
The breakthrough came in the 28th minute. High pressing from Yates and Butlin won possession, allowing Sam Wilding to pick out Langston in the box. The midfielder turned smartly before lifting a composed finish past Davies-Manton.
Rushall threatened an equaliser shortly after the interval when Nick Clayton-Phillips collected possession on the edge of the area and struck a fierce effort against the crossbar.
Curtis Pond was later called into action to preserve the lead, producing a fine save to tip over Roddy McGlinchey’s long-range drive.
Chasetown sealed the win moments later. Langston exchanged passes with Wilding before unleashing a powerful strike that crashed back off the bar. The rebound fell to Evans, who smashed the ball home to secure a place in the final for Jamie Hawkins' side.
