The Scholars took a 19th minute lead when Danny Griffiths cut in from the right edge of the penalty area and got the ball onto his left foot to fire beyond David Reay.
Just three minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage as Theo Robinson whipped in a cross from the right wing and leading scorer Nathan Waite brought the ball under control and span to volley a low shot in off the post.
Matters got worse for the visitors when defender Tom Hannigan conceded a penalty on Griffiths but Reay got down brilliantly to his right to stop Griffiths' spot kick.
At one stage It looked as if Chasetown would run up a huge score but after the break the visitors showed renewed steel and reduced the deficit with Romaine Graham forcing the ball beyond John Bateman.
As the half progressed, the home fans were getting increasingly anxious at the pressure put on their side and former Scholar Grant Ryan fired just over the crossbar as the Nottinghamshire side battled back. Chasetown held on for three points though to stretch their record to 7 wins in 9 games under new manager Marcus Law.
