Scholars breakthrough for vital three points.

Scholars breakthrough for vital three points.

Two match reports for the price of one tonight.

Match report by Press Officer Paul Mullins:

Chasetown kept their play offs alive, digging out a win after a spirited second half performance.

Chasetown were the first to force an attempt at goal when left back Jordan Evans struck a shot which took a wicked bounce and was retained by goalkeeper Ross Bilham.

Luke Yates fired into the side netting and then had a right footed effort deflected for a corner.

Dereham had two counter attacks which both flashed across the goal and wide of debutant James Wren’s right hand post.

Bilham had to be at his best to fingertip over a header from Danny O’Callaghan just before the halftime interval and then Jack Langston was denied by a last-ditch defensive tackle.

On the hour, Chasetown finally got the break through. Ben Lund forced Bilham into a low save to his right but only as far as Sam Wilding who side footed his first Scholars goal into an empty net.

Chasetown extended their lead in the 73rd minute when Ryan Wynter placed a header beyond the despairing dive of the visiting keeper from Langston’s corner.

O'Callaghan clipped the crossbar in injury time from 30 yards.

Match report by student Tom Bowen:

Chasetown extended their unbeaten run on Saturday to six league games as they played Dereham Town at The Scholars Ground.

The Scholars dominated the first half with the first chance coming to Danny O'Callaghan in the opening minutes, who fired just wide. The Chasetown skipper had another chance moments later but it was headed away by Dion Frary.

The visitors did have chances of their own, however, with their first chance arriving ten minutes in as Luke Johnson drilled the ball low but it went just wide.

The Scholars' best chance of the half came in the 38th minute as Jack Langston found O'Callaghan in the box and the captain's header was tipped just over the bar by Ross Dilham.

Chasetown continued to dominate as the second half started, with Danny O'Callaghan sprinting down the left wing and firing the ball just over the bar.

The hosts got what they deserved on the hour mark when Danny O'Callaghan's effort was saved and fell to Sam Wilding, who knocked it into the net.

Minutes later, Wilding went down in the box to strong penalty shouts from the Chasetown fans, but referee David Hinton decided otherwise.

The Scholars doubled their lead in the 73rd minute as Ryan Wynter placed a header into the bottom left of the goal from Jack Langston's header.

Danny O'Callaghan had the final effort for Chasetown as his effort skimmed the crossbar from 25 yards out. The game finished 2-0, giving the Scholars their sixth win in seven and keeping up with the playoffs as we head into the Easter weekend.
