
In the opening minutes of the game, both teams started slowly, lacking any real drive towards the box. That was until Evans came in with a powerful effort from just outside the area that skimmed the crossbar, igniting the contest.
Kris Taylor then took a free kick, but it got lost in a huddle in the box, allowing Slinn to claim it easily. Newcastle took the lead in the 20th minute when Twyford volleyed the ball beyond Pond’s reach, putting them ahead.
Chasetown responded with a corner kick that found Cater, who tried to level the game, but Slinn was there to make the save. Newcastle looked to double their lead, but Pond managed to gather the ball on the left side of the net.
As the second half began, Hayward volleyed a ball into the box, but the Scholars couldn’t get a touch on it. He tried again moments later, crossing to Glover, but Newcastle’s defense was quick to intercept.
However, Chasetown found the equalizer when Cater snuck the ball past Slinn, who wasn’t ready for the strike. Hayward then attempted to get the lead with a cross into the box, but it was headed away. Newly subbed Yates had a go, but Newcastle’s defense closed in on him, preventing any further progress.
Now, the Scholars will focus on their next game on Saturday against Wythenshawe Town, looking to gain vital points in their league campaign.
