The match kicked off with Taylor's freekick that set the tone early on. Fenton was quick to pounce, trying to claim a goal, but Passant was alert, snatching the ball right at his feet. Not one to back down, Taylor delivered a pinpoint cross to Fenton at the back post, only for Passant to again intervene before Fenton could nod it home.
The turning point came when a Chasetown player was penalized for handling the ball, prompting the referee to point to the spot. Naim Arsan stepped up and confidently slotted the penalty down the middle, leaving Pond diving in vain to his right.
As the second half unfolded, Chasetown looked to respond with a freekick taken by Butlin, which was blocked by Runcorn's wall. The ball fell to Dunne, but he was caught offside, resulting in a freekick for Runcorn. However, it was a beautifully executed ball from Oli Hayward that found Dunne unmarked at the back post, and he made no mistake, hammering it past the keeper to level the score.
Just moments later, Burnside was played through and expertly beat the offside trap, putting Runcorn back on the attack. In the 60th minute, Will Saxon found the net, slotting the ball past Pond to put Runcorn in a stalemate.
But Chasetown wasn't done yet; Kieran Fenton struck back, reclaiming the lead for his side, and that was all they needed to secure a hard-fought victory over Runcorn.
With the match ending in favor of Chasetown they can take great confidence from this hard-fought win as they look to build momentum in the league with the next upcoming home fixtures.
