Trafford edged past Chasetown in a fiercely contested match, securing a vital win as both teams battled for control from the outset. The opening 15 minutes saw an evenly matched contest, with Chasetown holding firm and attempting to build pressure through possession. Jack Langston, ever-dangerous from set-pieces, delivered a threatening corner early on, but Trafford's defence stood tall, quickly clearing the danger.
The home side looked to press for the advantage during the first half, but Trafford soon found their stride. It was Damola Sotona who broke the deadlock, bursting into the box and breezing past Pond to slot the ball home, putting Trafford ahead. Just five minutes later, Rio Clegg doubled the visitors' lead with a clinical finish, controlling a long ball over his shoulder before coolly firing past Pond, leaving Chasetown reeling.
After the break, Chasetown came out with renewed urgency. Langston continued to be at the heart of their attacking efforts, delivering a string of corners that had Trafford’s defence on high alert. However, none of the set-pieces bore fruit, with Trafford goalkeeper Matt Cooper handling the pressure well. Minutes later, Hayward launched a surging run from the edge of the box, crossing to Langston, whose strike sailed agonizingly wide of the post.
The Scholars pushed hard for a breakthrough, and another Langston corner found Danny Glover, but his header was straight into Sam Booth’s safe hands. Moments later, Langston scored which brought back hope for Chasetown. However the fight was not over when Glover came close once again, this time with a powerful effort that skimmed the top of the crossbar, as Chasetown desperately searched for a way back into the game. Fenton then set up a promising chance, but Trafford’s defence remained resolute, clearing the ball to safety.
Despite late pressure and additional time at the end of the match, Chasetown could not find the crucial goal to salvage a point. Trafford, to their credit, held firm and protected their lead until the final whistle, walking away with a hard-earned victory.
Chasetown, disappointed but undeterred, now shift their focus to the upcoming FA Trophy clash against Bromsgrove on Saturday, where they will be eager to bounce back from this narrow defeat.
