
Stalybridge took an early lead in the 6th minute with a goal from Rawsthorn, showcasing their attacking prowess. Dunne made a promising start, linking up with Langston, but unfortunately, he lost pace and the momentum fizzled out. O’callaghan came close with a header, but it rebounded straight back to him, and he couldn't convert.
As the match progressed, Unitt connected with Langy, but the header went off course. Cater attempted a cross that missed its target, while Dunne's throw-in found Cater again, who kicked too high. Chasetown was given a Fenton free-kick that was saved in the hands of Monks, and Cater's corner resulted in Unitt trying to get a touch but it went out. Butlin and Cater continued to press, but their efforts went begging, with Langston curling a shot over the bar.
In the second half, Cater made a run down the side but was unable to capitalize. With a Unitt pass to Dunne, leading to a corner for Langston, but there was no follow-up as it rebounded back. Stalybridge struck again, and doubled the lead putting pressure on the Chasetown side. Fenton's free kick found the ball volleying onto a player and then went offside. Cater then found Yates, who turned and shot wide.
Shortly after, Langston then tried to link up with George, but the defender held firm, denying them a clear chance. A corner from Langston was caught by Monks, and a subsequent cross from Langston saw the keeper miss it, but it went out of play. Cater then had a chance, but the flag went up for offside. Across the other end of the pitch there was a vital save from Pond.
Seconds later, Pond was called into action again with another crucial save. Yates then took a corner that hit off the stand, and his kick-in resulted in a header that went wide. However, Yates redeemed himself with another corner, which O’callaghan managed to head in, bringing some hope to the side. Clarke’s pass found O’callaghan again, but his header went off target. Cater then had a shot that went just wide, leaving the team searching for that elusive equalizer but not enough time to gain one back.
Despite the loss on the road , the Scholars still remain in playoff places and now focus on their home game against Wythenshawe next Saturday.
