In the 15th minute Chasetown went close to breaking the deadlock when Lee Butler and Nathan Waite combined to set up Stan Mugisha whose close range stooping header was saved on the line by Saul Deeley.
A minute later however, the visitors took the lead with a crisp finish from range from midfielder Ben Hutchinson's free kick.
Deep into the half, Waite shot on the turn but his effort span narrowly wide of the upright.
Chasetown upped the ante after the break and a neat pass round the corner from James Dance was met by the head of Waite whose effort beat Deeley but struck the base of the post.
Star man Mugisha out paced his defender and Butler fired a whisker over the bar as the home side continued to push.
Basford forced Chase keeper John Bateman into a spectacular double save to deny Hutchinson from distance and then Tyrelle Shannon-Lewis's follow up header as the visitors clung on to their narrow lead.
Despite dominating much of the game territorially, the Scholars lacked the finishing touches to level the scores as they remain win-less at home in the league this season.
