Scholars win but make fans nervous

Scholars win but make fans nervous

Paul Mullins17 Oct 2015 - 19:02

Chasetown returned to league action and made a dream start.

After just 4 minutes, Joe Halsall and Stan Mugisha combined to square the ball to Ryan Wynter who side footed home from close range.

Five minutes later The Scholars doubled their advantage after a calamitous mix up between Carlton defender Kieran Walker and keeper Jack Steggles gifted Mugisha an open goal which he duly netted.

The hosts attacks were sporadic but almost shocked their way back into the game with a speculative effort from Jake Wholey which rattled John Bateman's right hand post.

Carlton eventually broke through in the 75th minute. Wholey slid the ball into the path of Daniel Gordon who fired across Bateman.

Chase sub Nick Turton turned sharply to fire beyond Steggles to restore Chasetown's two goal advantage.

Then in a topsy turvy game The Millers reduced the arrears again when Gordon's free kick was flicked home by sub Romaine Graham.

The visitors rode the pressure from the Nottinghamshire side to hold on to a vital three points.

Chasetown: Bateman, Williams (Robinson, 87 mins), Caines, Haynes, Thompson, Dance (Brown, HT), Butler, Halsall, Wynter, Mugisha (Turton, 69 mins), Gould

Other subs: Rolston, Nelson (not used)
