4 unbeaten for Chasetown

Paul Mullins1 Nov 2015 - 07:20

A topsy-turvy game saw Chasetown extend their unbeaten run in the league to four games, thanks mainly to the heroics of goalkeeper John Bateman.

Chasetown started brightly and had the lion’s share of the possession, keeping bottom club Tividale firmly camped inside their own half.

Despite the territorial advantage, Thomas Turner in the Tividale goal was relatively untroubled with direct shots at goal, with James Dance firing wide, Stan Mugisha driving over the bar and a Rhys Thompson free kick right on the edge of the box striking the defensive wall.

It was still no surprise though when Chasetown took the lead, a corner was headed back into the danger area by Joe Halsall and a slight obstruction by his own defender caused Turner to spill a regulation catch straight to the feet of Ryan Wynter. Wynter took a couple of touches to make the chance easier but comfortably netted his fifth goal of the season.

The lead was short-lived as Chris Rabone was sent tumbling in the penalty area and Chris Sterling confidently converted the spot kick, sending Bateman the wrong way.

Bateman then made a string of fine saves to deny Ashley Jackson and Malachi Farquharson as the visitors were holding on to a point.

Chasetown almost nicked all three points with the last touch of the game as Wynter headed across goal and Nick Turton couldn’t quite get enough on the ball to find the target and the effort went inches wide.

Chasetown: Bateman, Williams (Turton, 47 mins), Haynes, Slater, Thompson, Davies, Dance, Halsall, Wynter, Mugisha (Washbourne, HT), Gould (Robinson, 67 mins)

Other sub: Brown, Pond (not used)
