The Scholars took the lead inside six minutes when Simon Brown sent an accurate free kick to the far post and Danny Edwards looped a header back over goalkeeper Robert Peet – Edwards’ 50th league appearance for The Scholars.
Gresley had a goal disallowed for offside before they had the perfect opportunity to level, but for a superb diving save from Chase keeper John Bateman to keep out Gary Ricketts’ penalty kick.
A scrappy first half petered out at 1-0 until the visitors levelled with a superb Jack Langston free kick five minutes after the restart.
The sides weren’t level long though as a minute later Paul Sullivan’s ball into the near post was volleyed home by Ryan Wynter for his 9th goal of the season.
Langston almost levelled again with a second free kick prior to the visitors being reduced to ten men when Ricketts received his marching orders for what the referee deemed a dangerous tackle.
Sullivan wasted a great chance to make it 3-1 after he waltzed past the keeper but trying to walk the ball in was blocked by a defender on the line.
The Derbyshire side saw red for a second time as Jean Dakouri was sent off for a second bookable offence.
