The battle for a play off place started with Chasetown on the front foot. Inside the first minute, Kev Hemagou, Nick Turton and George Washbourne all fired a shot at goal with the hosts clinging on.
Washbourne troubled keeper Ash Rawlins with a header midway through the half as the Scholars forced some early pressure.
At the other end, Tyrell McFarlane struck the base of the Chasetown post and then forced Chase keeper John Bateman to acrobatically palm over the crossbar.
In driving rain at the start of the second half, Washbourne and Hemagou both tested Rawlins with efforts on target inside the penalty area.
Heavy rain turned to a hailstorm which negated any attacking play for a five minute period around the hour mark.
Washbourne had a shot blocked by a defensive slide by James O’Reilly then Henry Eze drove a whisker wide of the Drayton goal.
Eventually the pressure counted and Washbourne drilled home a low shot which skidded on the wet surface 19 minutes from time.
Hemagou almost doubled the advantage with 4 minutes remaining only for Jeff Watkins to head off the line with Rawlins beaten.
Chasetown wrapped the points up in the final minute with a right footed effort from Jed Davies that nestled in the bottom corner.
In stoppage time Chasetown put some gloss on the victory as Paul Sullivan nipped in and slid the ball in from a tight angle.
