By Lizz Scott.

The game started off with Mossley who looked lively in the early stages, with Kgwakgwa fizzing a shot just wide in the first half-chance of the game. Soon after, Grundy also went close for the visitors with a header that failed to trouble the Chasetown goal.

At the other end, Chasetown responded with a well-directed header from the penalty spot, but Mossley keeper Day was equal to it, claiming confidently. Chasetown continued to push forward, and Ferrier went close with a curling effort that just dropped wide of the far post.

Bradley then tested Day with a thunderous strike, but the Mossley keeper held firm. Mossley did find the net later in the half, but celebrations were cut short by the assistant referee’s flag, ruling the effort out for offside.

After the break, Mossley nearly found the breakthrough as Grundy was denied from close range by a superb low stop from Pond. A period of pressure followed, and after a spell of pinball in the Chasetown box, Webster's effort was saved.

Mossley continued to look dangerous, coming close with a double chance, but Webster then broke quickly in response, only to see his shot safely gathered by Day.

Chasetown nearly found the opener when Langston’s clever flick-on forced a save, with the loose ball tapped just wide. From the resulting corner, Cook rose highest but headed over before being replaced by Kirton.

Langston was again presented with a golden opportunity when he found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but his attempted lob lacked height and was easily caught by the alert Day. Kirton made an immediate impact after his introduction, making a strong run down the wing and crossing for Butlin, who couldn’t keep his effort down and fired just over the bar.

Chasetown’s final chance came when a cross into the box found Ferrier, who struck on the spin, but once again, the effort flew over the bar, summing up a frustrating afternoon in front of goal.

The match ended in 0-0 with either side securing the full three points, but Chasetowj now shift their focus to Tuesday night’s game against Atherton Colleries.
