The warning signs were there almost immediately. Seconds after kick-off, Witton struck first, Duckworth finding the net before Chasetown had time to settle. The hosts continued to apply pressure, and soon after Webster unleashed a long-range effort that took a deflection from a corner, keeping Chasetown on the back foot.
Despite the early setback, Chasetown responded with purpose. Findlay surged forward on a driving run, delivering a dangerous cross that Chimenes met with composure, slotting the ball home to level the score and swing momentum briefly in the visitors’ favour.
Langston went close to turning the game on its head, firing narrowly wide of the post, but Witton quickly reasserted themselves. Garbutt restored their lead with a well-taken finish before doubling his tally from the penalty spot, calmly sending Pond the wrong way to give Witton a three-goal cushion.
Chasetown refused to fold. Cater’s fierce strike was blocked by the goalkeeper’s chest, and moments later Langston again went close, poking a cross just past the upright. The pressure finally told when Thorley converted from a cross to pull one back for Chasetown. Almost immediately, Chasetown were inches from another as Chimenes met a floated delivery and crashed an effort against the crossbar.
Thompson later tried his luck from distance, his shot sailing just over, as Chasetown threw everything forward. Pond even joined the attack for a late corner, but Witton capitalised ruthlessly, breaking at speed to score on the counter and put the result beyond doubt.
