Bury started the game off in full action, pulling a shot wide, and within a minute later, another Shakers effort went over the bar. Chasetown tried to dive into the game with Cater’s cross, which was deflected and tipped over by Allen. A few moments later, Pond saved Bury’s corner, leading to a throw that amounted to nothing.
There were two decent challenges later on for the Scholars, with one being saved by Allen and the other missing just slightly wide. A few minutes later, Bury took a chance from a tight angle but unfortunately hit the wrong side of the post.
Bury took the lead in the 33rd minute, with Gomes sending in a low cross for Graham to smash the ball home from ten yards.
Into the second half, Chasetown won a corner after a shot on goal from Langston, which took a deflection that could have ended up anywhere. Another Scholar’s corner landed at the feet of Yates, but the shot went just a tad wide.
Butlin then took a spill inside the Shakers’ area, with the ref awarding a goal kick. However, despite Chasetown holding firm for the final minutes, Bury sealed the three points away from home.
