The early stages were disrupted by a lengthy delay after it was discovered that a goalpost was too high. It took a combined effort from volunteers and players of both teams to fix the issue, with play resuming around forty minutes later. Once underway again, Chasetown created the first opportunities: Cater struck straight at Monks, while Spinelli fired over the stand. Just before half-time, Stalybridge threatened from a free kick, but Pond was equal to the effort and made the stop.
The second half saw Stalybridge take the lead when Irlam met a cross from Chalmers and fired past Pond into the far corner. Chasetown pushed for an equaliser soon after, with Langston striking the crossbar before the rebound fell shortly after but no one could apply the finishing touch. Another effort followed from Skeen-Hamilton, but Monks reacted well to palm the ball away and prevent any further danger.
After yesterday’s result Chasetown have finished tenth in the table.
