The match got off to an exciting start as both teams attacked from the first whistle at Lyme Valley Stadium.

Chasetown created another key opening in the 9th minute when sharp passing play played Kyle Moseley into the box, though his strike flashed narrowly wide of the post.

Chasetown continued to search for an opener with dangerous crosses from both flanks, but received the game's first booking in the 22nd minute when Jensen Tortoishell picked up a yellow card for a foul on a Newcastle Town player.

Newcastle Town put the Chasetown defence under sustained pressure in the 28th minute, with a couple of shots peppering the Chasetown goal, but Chasetown's defence held strong and cleared the ball.

The deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when a Newcastle Town player was fouled inside the box, earning a penalty that Newcastle Town then went on to convert to make it 1-0.

Chasetown tried to respond quickly in the 37th minute as Matt Hearsey set up Kyle Moseley, but his effort went just over the crossbar. Newcastle Town held onto their 1-0 lead as the teams went into the break.

The second half began with Chasetown making an immediate substitution, bringing on Kevin Monteiro to replace Jensen Tortoishell. Newcastle Town generated a chance from a free kick in the 51st minute, but the strike sailed high over the Chasetown crossbar.

Shortly after in the 55th minute, a cross from Kyle Moseley was played just behind Tak Sambizi and cleared by the Newcastle Town defence.

Chasetown thought they had leveled in the 58th minute when Matt Hearsey headed in a superb cross from Jordan Evans, only to be ruled offside.

Chasetown then refreshed their attack in the 61st minute by introducing Matt Funge for Dan Bradley.

Their persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Matt Hearsey found the back of the net to level the game at 1-1.

Chasetown nearly completed the turnaround in the 71st minute as Matt Funge sent a glancing header just wide of the post.

Looking for a winner, Chasetown brought on Lachlan Suffell for Kyle Moseley in the 77th minute.

Both teams remained on the front foot through the 85th minute searching for a late decider.
