The match got off to an exciting start at the Scholars Ground as Chasetown were awarded a penalty just 4 minutes in when Matt Funge was dragged down inside the box by a Lichfield City defender. Jack Langston stepped up to convert the spot-kick, putting Chasetown 1-0 ahead early on.

Chasetown continued to attack strongly, and in the 10th minute, a foul on Matt Hearsey earned a Lichfield City player a yellow card. Five minutes later, in the 15th minute, Matt Hearsey delivered a lovely cross from the right flank, but Tak Sambizi was caught just offside as he latched onto it.

In the 21st minute, Chasetown won a free kick near the Lichfield City box, but the delivery was headed clear by a Lichfield City defender.

Lichfield City nearly levelled the scoring in the 28th minute, but a goal-line clearance from a Chasetown defender kept the hosts' lead intact.

After a 34th-minute corner was cleared by the visitors' defence, Chasetown doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Lachlan Suffell found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

The Chasetown defence held strong through the closing stages of the half to keep their clean sheet intact heading into the break.

The second half got underway with Chasetown looking to extend their lead. Great runs from Tak Sambizi and hard-won tackles from Jack Langston kept the pressure high in the 51st minute.

Chasetown were forced into a change has Logan Cousins was brought on for the injured Jensen Tortoishell in the 58th minute, followed by George Cater and Kyle Moseley coming on for Matt Funge and Lachlan Suffell in the 62nd minute.

The changes paid off immediately in the 66th minute when substitute Kyle Moseley produced a lovely shot over the Lichfield keeper and into the back of the net to make it 3-0. Langston almost added another from a 71st-minute free kick won by Tak Sambizi, but his strike hit the Lichfield wall.

Lichfield City mounted a late comeback, starting in the 78th minute when Tyree Sanusi made an excellent run through the Chasetown defence to pull a goal back. The visitors made it 3-2 in the 83rd minute as Isaac Smart found the target.

Tempers flared in the closing minutes, resulting in yellow cards for Lichfield’s Isaac Smart (87') and Joe Colley (91').

Despite 4 minutes of added stoppage time, Chasetown managed the remaining minutes effectively to secure a 3-2 victory at full-time.
