Lincoln keeper Jake Turner was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half. At the start of the game, Chase striker Mitch Piggon went alone and Turner pushed wide at his near post for a corner.
Then, almost on the half time whistle, a Jack Langston volley was superbly saved at full length and away from the on rushing Piggon.
Chase keeper Curtis Pond rode his luck though with one hurried clearance which fell to Jordan Hempenstall whose looping effort clipped the top of the crossbar.
Lincoln had been on a great run of late but it was against the run of play that the hosts took the lead as Matt Cotton drilled home.
United made it 2.0 in the dying minutes of normal time with a Hempenstall effort that looped over Pond and nestled in the corner.
