FA Cup first rounders Stamford took the lead after 7 minutes. A through ball split open the Chasetown defence and John King picked his spot to slide the ball past Curtis Pond.

Chasetown drew level in the 36th minute after patient build up play saw Mitchell Piggon feed Josh Ruff whose low right foot shot beat Sam Donkin to his left.

On the stroke of half time, Chasetown gained a corner from a defensive error and Nathan Rooney’s kick reached Peter Till whose goalbound effort was blocked by Elliot Sandy.

The hosts regained the lead 8 minutes into the second half with a quick counter attack that fell to former Scholar Grant Ryan who fired into the roof of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Skipper James Dance was a whisker away from an equaliser a fingertip save from Donkin to concede a corner.
