After ground owners Sutton Coldfield Town were despatched out of the Walsall Senior Cup, tenants Romulus fell to a 44th minute strike from leading scorer James Dance, hooking in his 12th goal of the season thanks to a Matt Curley cross.

Chasetown had the better of a tight opening with Seb Lake-Gaskin turning provider for a Josh Ruff header on target and then Lake-Gaskin saw keeper Rhys Bills dive at his feet to deny him after Dance set him up.

Levi Rowley stung the gloves of Chase keeper Curtis Pond not long after the half hour but it was just before the break when the hosts had the best chance of the half. Nathan Waite was clean through against his former club but Pond spread himself well to deny the Roms number 9.

A minute later, Dance fired home what proved to be the only goal of the game to edge The Scholars in front at the break.
Lake-Gaskin rattled the Romulus post at the start of the second half as Chasetown looked to extend their lead.

A game of few clear-cut chances after the break saw Chasetown victorious though with Pond a commanding figure in goal dominating his penalty area to haul in every cross and free kick fired in his direction.

Mitch Piggon and Pierce Kiembi created chances for further goals for the visitors but Dance’s first half strike was the crucial one.
