Chasetown were a whisker away in the opening minutes as Jack Steggles’ fingers tipped away a Mitch Piggon effort at his near post.
But, the home side took control and took the lead just after the half hour. Keeper Curtis Pond conceded a spot kick trying to clear the ball and Aaron Hooton sent Pond the wrong way from 12 yards.
Two minutes before the break Carlton increased their lead. Daniel Gordon opened up the visiting defence with a strong run into the box and Hooton had a tap in from close range.
Hooton completed his hat trick at the start of the second half with a drive from the edge of the box.
Jack Langston reduced the deficit in stoppage time with a powerful free kick into the top corner.
