The match got off to an active start at The Scholars Ground as Chasetown won the first free kick in the 5th minute, which the Kidsgrove Athletic defence cleared away.

Kidsgrove responded in the 11th minute with the first corner of the match, but the Chasetown defence stood firm and cleared the threat.

Both teams looked to establish themselves early on, constantly seeking attacking opportunities as the game reached the 17th minute.

Chasetown created a great opportunity in the 25th minute when Kevin Monteiro was played through and came inches away from scoring, though the Kidsgrove goalkeeper managed to smother the ball into his hands.

Shortly after, in the 32nd minute, Kyle Moseley flashed a lovely ball into the Kidsgrove box to set up Monteiro for another attempt on goal, but the Kidsgrove keeper reacted well to make the save.

Kidsgrove earned a corner in the 37th minute, which was once again cleared away by the Chasetown defence.

Right before the break, in the 45th minute, Kyle Moseley unleashed a rocket of a shot, but the Kidsgrove keeper pulled off another save to keep the scoreline goalless at 0-0 heading into half-time.

Chasetown started the second half right where they left off, showing lovely attacking and link-up play.

Their persistence broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Jack Langston fired a piledriver of a shot that hit the post, and Matt Hearsey was on hand to follow up and tap the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

In the 62nd minute, Logan Cousins won a free kick for Chasetown just outside the Kidsgrove box, but the resulting set-piece was saved and cleared away for a Chasetown throw-in.

Chasetown then made a double substitution in the 68th minute, bringing on Matt Funge and George Cater for Kyle Moseley and Logan Cousins.

Despite Chasetown’s pressure, Kidsgrove struck back in the 73rd minute as Reiss Martin found the net to level the game at 1-1.

Chasetown were forced into a change in the 79th minute when an injury to goalkeeper Curtis Pond saw Tak Sambizi introduced, with Jack Langston taking over goalkeeping duties for the remainder of the match.

Kidsgrove completed the turnaround in the 83rd minute when Matt Rhead scored to put the visitors ahead 2-1.

Despite six minutes of added stoppage time, Kidsgrove held firm in the closing stages to secure a 2-1 victory away from home.
