A day to forget for Scholars

A day to forget for Scholars

david birt31 Mar 2018 - 19:19

Chasetown will need to bounce back on Monday against Romulus to move back into the play off positions.

Chasetown made a difficult task at play-off chasing Stamford even harder conceding two early goals.

The hosts took the lead after just 5 minutes. Eliot Putman fired goalwards but Curtis Pond could only keep it out as far as Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson who tapped the rebound into an empty net.

Stamford doubled their lead on 20 minutes. Pond came out to try and meet a header but didn't get there and Rob Morgan looped his effort home.

A disastrous start for The Scholars got worse when Jordan Smith beat the offside trap to head home a Stamford third goal before the half hour.

Stamford keeper Danny Haystead finger tipped over a Will Whieldon free kick.

Chasetown were handed a lifeline when Danny Cocks was brought down but Jack Langston fired his spot kick over the crossbar.

Five minutes after the break, Stamford broke down a Chasetown attack and Fortnam-Tomlinson took the ball on his chest and volleyed past Pond.

The hosts made it five with another well worked goal with Bradley Wells driving home low along the ground.

Jake Lovatt forced Haystead into a scrambling save with a header as the visitors tried to force a consolation.

Stamford extended their lead to 6 as substitute Liam Adams broke through unchallenged to net comfortably.
