Scholars back in the play offs after superb effort to get the game on

Scholars back in the play offs after superb effort to get the game on

Paul Mullins2 Apr 2018 - 19:46

Chasetown took full advantage of no-one else playing to move back into 6th place.

The only game on in the division was a tight affair in the opening quarter. Romulus tested Chase keeper Curtis Pond with two efforts that he was equal to.

Eventually Chasetown took some control and Jack Langston was an inch away from giving his side the lead. His shot squirmed under the body of keeper Billy Spink who somehow got back to claw the ball off the line and a defender cleared before Jake Lovatt could pounce.

Lovatt then headed narrowly over with a looping effort on the half hour.

The breakthrough goal eventually came on 33 minutes. Danny Cocks sped into the penalty area and fed Langston. The skipper helped it on to George Cater who showed tremendous composure to dink the ball over Spink.

Just before the break, the hosts doubled their lead. Langston’s shot was flying goalwards and a deflection off the head of Cater wrong footed Spink.

Romulus forced a low save from Pond at the start of the second half as Yohan Rutty-Smith fired towards the bottom corner.

Cater thought he had his hat trick with a confident finish only to be denied the match ball by an assistant referee’s flag.
