The Linnetts came into this match with an unbeaten run in 2013 and with Chasetown on the back of 8 wins in 10 league games, it was always going to be an entertaining game and the first half did not disappoint.
The goal that proved to be the only goal of the game came after just 4 minutes. Dan Jacob took aim from long range and fired a long range effort beyond the reach of Ryan Price into the top of the goal.
How that was the only goal was down to some resolute defending and top goalkeeping from the Linnetts and goalkeeper Danny Gay in particular.
The confidence throughout the Chasetown team was there for all to be seen and recalled striker Paul Sullivan was inches wide of the upright with a low drive in an end-to-end first half.
The Norfolk visitors twice threatened the Chasetown goal but it was the Scholars who posed the greater threat.
On 16 minutes, a fierce Danny Bragoli free kick was spectacularly pushed aside by Gay, and on the half hour, Gay produced an even better save to push away a drive by Simon Brown which he saw very late, before flinging himself low to his left.
The second half saw Chasetown on the front foot trying to deservedly get themselves all square, with the Kings Lynn defence well marshalled by skipper Richard Bunting throwing themselves in front of every Chasetown attempt at goal.
Chris Slater had a goalbound volley blocked and five minutes from time, almost as soon as he came on, Andy Westwood curled a low effort to Gay’s right but the visiting custodian got down well and clung on.
Late on, Chasetown fashioned out one last great chance to earn a share of the points when Nick Wellecomme gained half a yard of space in front of goal and struck a first time shot, to which Gay stuck out a strong right leg to kick the chance away.
On the last 180 minutes of action against two of the sides that have been there or thereabouts all season, Craig Harris will be delighted with the performances of his side and have been good value for the winning sequence that has taken them from below half way in the league table to two places short of the promotion play offs.
