The Derbyshire side were ahead inside 8 minutes after Kieran O’Connell burst down the left and squared the ball to Jordan Nadat who fired into the bottom right corner of the net from close range.
The Scholars retaliated with a Theo Robinson free kick which was comfortably held by Ross Etheridge as the visitors looked to restore parity quickly.
Robinson floated over a couple of decent looking crosses from the left wing which eluded everyone, but the third one then found Nick Wellecomme whose shot was parried, with Sullivan firing the rebound over the bar.
Sullivan went close again before Gresley caught Chasetown on the counter attack in the final minute of the first half with Rob Spencer netting with a precise header. Ryan Price got his hands to the effort but it was too strong to keep out.
Craig Harris’ men came out earlier then their opponents at the start of the second period and started with some neat passing down the right wing, until the Gresley left back John Guy got a toe in to help the ball into the path of Kieran O’Connell whose strong run left the Scholars in his trail and he finished neatly to Price’s right.
After 56 minutes, Chasetown were thrown a lifeline when Sullivan forced his way into the penalty area and Gresley skipper Jamie Barrett sent him tumbling. Simon Brown’s penalty was thunderous and Etheridge had no chance to keep it out.
Three minutes later, Gresley restored their three goal advantage with some neat inter-passing which resulted in Nadat netting his second and probably killing off any chance of a Scholars comeback.
Midway through the half, Paolo Piliero added a fifth before the hosts had a sixth goal chalked out for offside.
Twelve minutes from the end, debutant Craig Bannister slipped a gorgeous pass into the path of Sullivan who finished in style to add his 5th goal of the season.
