The first half left a lot to be desired, with the home side failing to register a serious attempt on Lewis Exall’s goal, while Romulus edged the chances ever so slightly with a Blake Thompson shot saved low in front of his body by Ryan Price while Marcus Brown struck the top of the cross bar from long range.
After an improved second half with both sides looking lively on the attack, the deadlock was finally broken twenty minutes from time, with Romulus taking the lead with a superb team goal.
Marcus Brown outpaced full back Jack Farmer, back heeled the ball to substitute Tyron Amory who delivered an exquisite first time cross to the far post where former Scholar Craig Marshall scored with a powerful header.
The Scholars were level within 5 minutes. Paul Sullivan nipped into the box and was going away from goal when Liam Francis inexplicably clipped the Chasetown striker. Referee Mr Jones had no hesitation pointing to the spot and Simon Brown continued his rich vein of recent goalscoring, thumping the penalty into the roof of the net, possibly clipping the underside of the crossbar – his fifth goal in 6 matches in December.
Chasetown were lifted by the goal and Exall had to be at his best to dive full length to his left to deny a curling effort from Sullivan.
Eight minutes from time, the comeback was complete when Lee Butler whipped in a cross from the right and an unmarked Ramone Stephens steered a low right foot shot beyond Exall.
