Chasetown ended 2021 on a bad note as they lost 2-1 against Sporting Khalsa when they had enough chances to have left the Guardian-Warehousing stadium with all three points.
The first chance came when Zack Foster was gifted the ball unmarked in the middle of the box only for the keeper to come out and divert his shot wide.
The Scholars again went close when Joey Butlin shot from a free kick at an acute angle which was parried into the path of Luke McGinnell who blazed over the bar.
The deadlock was broken when league top goal scorer, Jack Langston, received the ball unmarked and headed into an empty net to score his 95th goal for the Scholars.
Sporting Khalsa responded by hammering a header off the post.
Chasetown also hit the woodwork not long after when captain Danny O’Callaghan rattled the bar.
Khalsa drew level when former Scholar and Saint Kitts and Nevis international Tesfa Robinson headed a cross home bringing the score back to 1-1.
Langston came close to doubling his tally for the day when he hit a speculative long shot that was palmed clear by the home goalkeeper.
The second half started at a slow pace until Butlin was fed in one on one with the keeper only for him to slot narrowly wide.
Butlin missed another gilt edged opportunity when substitute John Atherton shot from long range only for the keeper to spill the easy catch, luckily for him he recovered before Butlin could slide the ball home.
Chasetown felt aggrieved they hadn't won a free-kick for a foul on Butlin and the hosts broke quickly to secure the win. They countered and passed the ball to substitute Jumaane Meggoe who spectacularly slotted the ball high into the middle of the net to ensure that all three points were staying in Willenhall.
