Both Carlton Town and Chasetown won 5-1 in the last round of the FA Trophy in order to meet in the Second Qualifying Round. This was the Millers' fourth consecutive cup game, with this one being their first home game since the Bank Holiday weekend.
Carlton came quickly out of the blocks. They earned themselves a penalty in the opening moments as Niall Davie converted from the spot, following a foul from Chasetown shot stopper Bradley Clarkson.
The visitors came close multiple times in the following moments, with Jack Langston smashing an effort against the left post, and fired over the bar with another attempt shortly afterwards.
Marvellous Onabirakhanlen had an attempt that was blocked by Felix Annan in the Carlton goal. As Luke Yates tried to follow up, his attempt was also saved as fans behind the goal called for a Chasetown penalty, which was waved away by the referee.
Carlton had a corner just before the half-hour mark, where the delivery was accurately headed home against the run of play by Khyle Sargent.
The hosts stood resilient in the second half, blocking most of Chasetown's efforts. The Scholars were awarded a free kick around 70 minutes as Ryan Nesbitt fired straight at the keeper.
In the remaining 20 minutes, both teams struggled to create chances from open play. On the 78th minute, John Atherton found Nesbitt in the box who headed home past the keeper to give Chasetown a lifeline.
In added time, Atherton received a through ball but was subsequently fouled by Sargent, who saw red card. The resultant free kick was hit at the wall by Langston.
Despite multiple chances for the Scholars, they struggled to break through Carlton's defence and the FA Trophy came to an end.
