Stafford were the victors with two first goals from Jake Charles and Tom Thorley but Chasetown were never out of this cup tie until the final whistle ended their league cup run.
The visitors scored early but a Will Whieldon effort parried by Adam Whitehouse and an effort from Tom Hill over the bar saw Chasetown right back in the game.
Twenty minutes or so were on the clock when Rangers dented the Scholars hopes with their second goal, but again Whieldon forced a save from the visiting number 1.
Scott Dundas made all three allotted subs at half time and Chase were well into the ascendancy after the break.
Within 8 minutes of the restart, Whieldon's effort towards the near post was too strong for the keeper who could only palm into his net.
Jack Langston then forced another save with a long rang effort as Chasetown looked to try and take the tie to a penalty shoot out.
Chasetown though they had that chance when Danny Cocks was sent tumbling inside the box with the home fans believing it was a penalty kick. The referee deemed otherwise and produced a second yellow for Cocks.
