Stafford made a good start, with a side that made just two changes from their weekend fixture.

Chasetown grew into the game though and only a lack of penetration in the final third prevented the visitors from taking the lead.

Eventually, Chasetown registered the first serious threat on goal in the first half as Joe Brown's effort beat the keeper and came back off the post.

Curtis Pond made a smart save before half-time to keep the hosts out with honours even at the break.

Scott Dundas' men started the second half in the ascendancy and thought they had taken the lead from a corner. Ryan Wynter got his head onto the near post kick, but the referee had already blown for an infringement between Wynter and a defender.

Chasetown deservedly took the lead in spectacular fashion. Goalkeeper Lewis King sliced a clearance straight to Jack Langston with the goal gaping. Despite being urged to shoot first time, Langston took a touch and then curled the ball into the open net from a good 30 yards.

Langston could have made it 2-0 but prodded a low shot wide of the goal when perhaps he should have done better.

There was no time to dwell on that miss though as another clearance fell to Langston, this time barely inside the Stafford Rangers half and he fired it goalwards beyond King who scurried back but was unable to keep the ball out to seal the victory.
