Tuesday replay beckons for Scholars

Paul Mullins3 Oct 2015 - 21:25

These sides will have to do it all over again on Tuesday after the visitors denied Chasetown with a late penalty.

The home side were forced into an early change when Rhys Thompson received a nasty foot injury and was carried off.

The Scholars dominated the first half and took the lead when Stan Mugisha received the ball on the edge of the area and drilled a low shot beyond Kevin Sawyer's right hand.

Evesham twice forced Chase midfielder James Dance into hooked clearances near the goal line but the visitors failed to pose a serious threat on John Bateman's goal.

Dave Stringer's men felt aggrieved that they were not awarded a penalty when winger Jono Gould was sent tumbling under a challenge from Liam Harding.

Chasetown were reduced to ten men after substitute Danny Edwards retaliated to a challenge on him and received a straight red card.

Despite the man disadvantage the next chance fell to the hosts as Mugisha teed up Joe Halsall whose shot bobbled through to Sawyer.

Against the run of play Evesham equalised after Mike Williams conceded a penalty and Robins skipper Matt Sysum sent Bateman the wrong way with a coolly taken spot kick.

In the dying seconds Halsall struck the crossbar with a first time effort from the edge of the area.

Chasetown: Bateman, Thompson (Williams, 6 mins), Haynes, Slater (Edwards, HT), Dance, Brown, Halsall, Wynter, Mugisha (Robinson, 82 mins), Gould

Other subs: Turton, Waite (not used)
