The Greenbacks drew first blood inside 2 minutes. A Scholars free kick was cleared as far as Khaellem Bailey-Nicholls who sprinted from the halfway line and fired beyond Curtis Pond.
United doubled their lead in the 11th minute. The hosts broke down the left and a cross to the near post was headed home by Luke Keen.
Twenty minutes in, Chasetown registered their first effort on target - a superb long range shot from Will Whieldon was held low by keeper Dan Crane.
Jack Langston fired goalwards as Chasetown took some control, only to be blocked by a defender’s body.
Then, the visitors appealed for a spot kick when George Cater was pushed to the floor by a United defender.
Chasetown started the second half on the front foot and were a whisker away from a goal back as Whieldon’s free kick narrowly missed the head of substitute Ryan Wynter who could have scored with his first touch.
Crane then made a spectacular fingertip save to deny a Danny Cocks effort as Scott Dundas men tried desperately to get a route back into the tie.
With 15 minutes left Chris Baker hooked an effort inches over the crossbar.
Crane then denied Muzzy Nduna with a smart save at his near post before Wynter had his effort cleared off the line and Nduna couldn't connect for the rebound.
In stoppage time Chasetown were handed a lifeline when Baker was brought down by Crane and Langston confidently converted the spot kick.
But it was too little too late for the battling Scholars in front of a crowd of 517.
