The Scholars battered the home goal in the first twenty minutes. Mitchell Piggon came close twice while teammate Josh Ruff had a shot blocked by Kallum Keane.
Against the run of play, Carlton keeper’s Jack Steggles long range goal kick was missed by Rhys Thompson and Niall Davie fired below Curtis Pond.
Carlton doubled their lead just after the half hour. Davie capitalised on some defensive hesitancy and drilled the ball beyond Pond.
Lawrence Gorman then rattled the crossbar as the hosts tried to kill the cup tie.
Chasetown reduced the arrears when Seb Lake-Gaskin chased a through ball and Steggles raced out diverting the ball only as far as Piggon who lobbed the ball over the keeper from long range.
The visitors gave it their all to force an equaliser but Piggon’s header over the bar was the closest they came to an equaliser.
Carlton added a third in stoppage time. Luke Smithson counter attacked and Jake Wholey tapped into an empty net.
