A first half of few chances saw the Royals create the first real half chance. Luke Keen tried his luck from distance but fired over the bar.
Just before half-time, a brilliant run from Matt Curley linked up with Seb Lake-Gaskin and it looked like Curley had been tripped inside the box. Referee Mr Martin awarded only a free kick which Simon Brown hit into the wall.
Chasetown started the second half brightest and Rhys Thompson’s free kick span off the defensive wall and inches wide of the post.
Another Chase free kick on the edge this time saw Nathan Rooney’s effort brilliantly pushed aside by James Wren.
The Scholars finally broke the deadlock in the 81st minute. Substitute Mitch Piggon diverted the ball into the path of James Dance who drilled it beyond Wren.
Chasetown deservedly clinched it with a second Piggon assist and Pierce Kiembi netted his first ever goal.
