Pond has a night to remember as Scholars squander cup lead

Paul Mullins25 Jan 2017 - 11:45

Pond saved two shoot out penalties as Chasetown reached the Walsall Senior Cup semi final.

Chasetown stormed into an early lead with a goal inside three minutes when Jack Langston got on the end of a cross from Peter Till and lashed an effort past Tom Turner.

Eight minutes later, Mitch Piggon picked out Till with an exquisite cross and the latter volleyed clinically home.

It took until just before half time for the home side to add a third goal. Piggon turned provider again and Ryan Wynter’s header on target took a nick off Jon Haynes and beat Turner.

Khalsa reduced the deficit just after the hour with Brad Lawley sending Curtis Pond the wrong way from the penalty spot after a handball.

The visitors caused a scare by pulling a second goal back in the 71st minute through former Scholar Craig Bannister.

Khalsa completed an astonishing comeback with an 82nd minute equaliser from Joe Rogers to send the game to penalties.

Curtis Pond who had made four stunning saves during the 90 minutes saved Luke Shearer's penalty to keep the score at 1.1 after Till had scored the Scholars first kick. Liam Holt, Langston and Piggon put Chasetown 4.3 ahead before Pond saved from opposite number Turner.
