The Scholars took the lead after 15 minutes. Nkosi Mzungwana crossed from deep and City defender Jamie Smith headed only as far as Will Whieldon who drilled a low shot home from ten yards out.

The hosts almost made it 2-0 with a curling effort from Muzzy Nduna which was inches wide of Matthew Gwynne’s left hand post.

Chasetown deservedly doubled their lead on the hour. Substitute Nick Wellecomme forced the error from centre back Mark Smith who headed into the path of Muzzy Nduna who smashed a volley past Gwynne.

Whieldon and George Cater looked more likely to add to the goals while a Smith header was the best the visitors offered.
