The main drama unfolded in the 50th minute when the assistant referee alerted the referee to a challenge made by Chasetown goalkeeper Curtis Pond, with the score level at 1-1. Referee Mr Conde promptly issued the Chase Number 1 with a red card, with Manager Mark Swann forced into an immediate change to bring on substitute keeper Callum Hayward.
Chasetown had made a dream start with a goal after just 8 minutes. Oli Hayward's free kick from the Chasetown left wing was superbly headed home by Joey Butlin.
Jordan Pierrepont in the visitors goal was then forced to parry away a drive from Jordan Evans as we looked to dominate the game.
Anything we could do, Basford could do too. A free kick from Ryan Wilson on the Basford right was powered home by the head of Kane Richards.
Pond was adjudged to have been guilty of violent conduct after he had cleared the ball away from United striker Niall Towle.
Liam Kirton was sacrificed for Callum Hayward to make his debut between the sticks.
Scholars fans may have feared the worst with 10 men but almost immediately saw their side take their lead. Jack Langston's cross was met by the third headed goal of the night as Ryan Wynter connected to leave Pierrepont with no chance.
Unsurprisingly, Basford turned up the heat and tried to put some pressure on the debutant goalkeeper.
Hayward saved well from a Matt Thornhill free kick and then saved again to deny substitute Alex Howes.
Every touch of the ball from the sub keeper saw the Chase faithful cheer vociferously, even more so when the final whistle blew.
Chasetown await their fate in the next round, the tie scheduled for Saturday 3rd October.
